PSP: Gundam Vs. Gundam

I have just bought a PSP game called Gundam Vs. Gundam (wiki) which was released in November 2008 for a cheap price, 2000 yen ! It is really a bargain considering that the game was released just 6 months ago and I've considered buying this game since I owned a PSP. I guess I am fortunate to wait and buy at the right time.

Maybe just like other gundam games, in this game you control a gundam of your choice and try to defeat other mobile suits that appear. I guess what really makes me like this gundam game genre (similar to Mobile Suit Gundam Rengou vs Zaft II)is that there is a sensible sense that gundams are not super heroes (imagine Gundam Musou) and you are given much control of what you can do with gundams. Of course gundams in other games are also cool, and most of the songs are also very enjoyable, but the gameplay of this genre is what gives it a distinguishable taste.

I would prefer however, if we can move the target circle, which is always located in the middle of the screen, perhaps by the analog stick or other sorts of input devices. It would enable us to change the shooting target without necessarily facing it, just like we move our mouse pointers to shoot when we play first-person shooters, and of course, you won't be limited to shoot at where the target is now (before it moves), so if you can read its movements, you can just shoot at the location where it is going to move (Newtype huh ?).

[Update: 2009-6-21]

I am so excited. Yesterday I got the gold medal for the ultimate level of this game, which means that I beat two extra stages in addition to the ordinary ones, and cleared the game without any continue. I used Wing Gundam Zero, which I am not really sure why, but apparently I do better in this game using it compared to other 3000-cost Gundams.

It was also the first time I could gain access to the second extra stage for the ultimate level yesterday. I am not really sure what the conditions are. I thought that clearing previous levels without your Gundam being destroyed even once was the condition, but I guess I was wrong, because I think my Gundam was destroyed at least two times in different stages.

Anyway, although it was my first time, I beat it directly. I died once, and still got over 500 HP at that time. Who were the opponents, you ask ? There were 4. Yes, FOUR ! AFAIK, it is the only stage where you face 4 gundams at the same time, and in my case, they were Nu-Gundam, Turn A Gundam, Freedom Gundam, and V2 Gundam. I am not really sure if there is any enemy reinforcement after some time has passed after destroying one or two of the gundams, but I cleared the game, after beating all four and there was no enemy reinforcement.

For the other settings, my difficulty level was 6, and I left all the other options at their default settings. Next time, maybe I'll try the hardest difficulty level, gulp.
